Celebrating 10 Years of Action in Africa in Nakuwadde

Ten years ago, Action in Africa created a community center with a vision of transforming lives in Nakuwadde. Today, we are celebrating the remarkable progress AIA has achieved. It began as a vision to improve education, health, community development, and women’s empowerment and has delivered meaningful impact over the past decade.

In celebration of our 10th Anniversary, we reached out to members of the community to hear how AIA has touched their lives during since opening its doors to everyone who wanted to enter.

Gloria, AIA Scholarship Alumni and Education Programs Aide

Gloria joined AIA at a young age and has witnessed its growth firsthand. She first learned about AIA when our CEO, Sarah Nininger, and the team visited her school, St. Johnson Primary School in Nakuwadde.

Although she was young, she was aware of how her parents struggled to educate her and her siblings. She feared she might have to drop out of primary school due to her family’s financial challenges. At this critical time, AIA stepped in, supporting her parents with school fees and scholastic materials until she completed her first years of school.

Gloria entered secondary school after being awarded another scholarship and, eventually, full university support from Action in Africa. Today, she proudly holds a degree and works in AIA’s education department. She expressed her deepest gratitude to AIA for the unwavering support she has received since day one.

Shakir, Special Needs Scholarship Beneficiary

Shakir’s message resonated in our ears. He has been in our Special Needs program since his childhood.
"My name is Shakir. I am in Primary Three at Brightway Primary School. I love my school and teachers. When I grow up, I want to become a doctor. THANK YOU, ACTION IN AFRICA!”

Colline, Education Programs Manager

"This organization does exactly what it says—it educates, empowers, and inspires many."

Colline shared that AIA has helped him grow professionally. "When I look back to when I joined this outstanding organization as a fresh graduate, I see how much I have gained. I’ve developed skills like leadership, teamwork, and problem-solving."

Sylivia and Her Mother, Special Needs Beneficiary

Sylivia is a student in our special needs program, which provides children with disabilities personalized learning experiences, individual therapy, and school tuition.

Her mother shared that she gave birth to a deaf and mute daughter but never abandoned her, though she often had sleepless nights, sadness, and constant worries due to limited support.

"After getting news about AIA, I approached the organization seeking their help and they welcomed me so well without hesitation. I narrated my story and the situation.” She was surprised when AIA responded immediately. AIA has been supporting her daughter from baby class and she has now reached primary six.

Sylvia expressed her gratitude through sign language, sharing that she can now communicate with friends and others. "Thank you, Action in Africa," she signed.

Shadiah, AIA Scholarship Alumni and Education Department Aide

Shadiah shared that AIA has profoundly impacted her life. Through the programs she attended during school holidays, she gained confidence, public speaking skills, and interpersonal skills.

AIA also supported her academic journey through university, and she proudly shared that she is now a first-class degree holder.

Rehemah, Special Needs Aide

“Ever since I started working with Action in Africa, my life changed to an unexpected level. My children are supported in their academic journeys. Through my job at AIA as a Special Needs Aide, I can provide food for my family, unlike before, when we used to sleep hungry.”

As we mark a monumental milestone, we want to take this singular opportunity to express our deepest gratitude toward donors, sponsors, supporters, partners, all stakeholders, and the entire community of Nakuwadde, with whom we have streamlined this noble cause together. Your generosity, trust, and unwavering commitment have made a difference in transforming the lives of the people of Nakuwadde.

Your support, love, time, and participation in our programs have been a driving force and engine behind our vision, mission, and core values, which we can never compensate for! Our sincere prayer is: let us continue converging ideas for a better future for Nakuwadde.
