Good Schools Need Good Teachers

Making quality education accessible for all of Uganda’s women and children is no small task, but AIA has the best partners to help guide our journey. We work intimately with the parents, students, local leaders, and most importantly educators throughout the Wakiso District, to understand each school community’s unique needs and connect them with essential resources, tools, and training. Together, we’ve developed a network of skilled educators who are passionate about their work and committed to putting the needs of their students first.

Every week, The Center offers free Teacher Workshops where educators from across the district can come together to learn new teaching strategies and creative ways to help students become lifelong learners. Last week, The Center hosted its final workshop of the term. The educators who attended left with new school supplies, ideas to inspire young minds and the confidence that comes with a community of supportive colleagues.

“The workshop has helped me to learn creative activities for my pupils back at school,” said Nabalira Gladys from Little Kings Children Centre. “I enjoy the cooperation and knowledge we share. I’m glad my students can attend classes at The Center too.”

“We have a group of people working together and fostering teamwork. The workshops are my favorite part of The Center, said Wasukira Godfrey, with Brightway Schools. “As a teacher, it has helped me build relationships with my students and help them more in their studies and while doing my own self evaluations being more organized in class.”

Quality education and access to good schools are part of the foundation for healthy communities. This is even more important in Uganda where nearly half of the population is aged 14 or younger, one of the youngest countries in the world. Education and literacy are essential to the long-term health of the nation and success of this young generation. Uganda can’t meet this need without teachers.

The next school term starts in two weeks and we’ll begin a series of workshops. If you’d like to be a part of our work empowering Uganda’s educators and students join our Scholarship Society today.
