This is a huge month for our community in Nakuwadde and Aspen. September marks the end of a great summer for AIA. The Labor Day holiday was a wonderful opportunity for our staff to rejuvenate and refocus as our students head back to school for their third and final term of the year. This month, as we say so long to summer, we'll be rolling out a full calendar of events and special programs that we'll be offering to our friends and family in Colorado this fall.

First up, is the inaugural Action in Africa x RECESS Pickleball Tournament happening in Aspen, Colorado on September 16th! We’re celebrating the power of play and raising money to support enrichment programs at The Center in Uganda. Our one-day, double-elimination tournament will only feature 24 teams. Get your spot while they last, but even if you’re not competing there will be plenty of fun activities for all ages while you cheer on your favorite team. We hope to see you there! Read more about this and other upcoming special events below.
Our 2023 interns are getting settled into their university classes. We’re so proud of our new university scholars. Read their letters to the AIA community in our
Journey to University series.

It’s that time of year again – the kids are heading back to school. As we prepare to welcome our students in Nakuwadde back this upcoming term, we’d like to ask you to support our efforts by joining the Scholarship Society - our monthly giving program. This is the best way to support education at The Center.

Here are a few things we can do with ten $10 memberships:

  • Pay for 6 nurses to staff our medical outreach camps 🧑🏾‍⚕️⛑️

  • Fund computer literacy classes for 50 students 🏿‍🧑🏾‍

  • Provide three weeks of afterschool programming 🏾‍

Meet Action In Africa Ambassador–Chinobay!

For decades, Chinobay has served as a cultural ambassador for Uganda, an advocate for children, and a champion for the unifying power of art. He’s traveled across the world sharing his talent and compassion. His Dance of Hope program has reached more than 45,000 children globally. We are so excited our missions have allowed us to cross paths and honored to announce Chinobay is our first official Action in Africa Ambassador!
Chinobay and Dance of Hope will return to Aspen next month for a week-long residency interactive program with Action in Africa. Follow us on Instagram and TikTok to learn more about his amazing work, where his life’s journey has taken him and where he’s going next.

Next week Dr. Jane Goodall, the world’s foremost primate expert, conservationist, and renowned anthropologist will be touring Aspen. Our AHS Action In Africa students were invited to volunteer at Dr. Jane's Goodall and ACES Community Youth Lecture at Harris Concert Hall on Monday, September 11th at 5:30pm. Keep an eye out for them in their AIA t-shirts!

The event is sold out, but you can tune in virtually.
If you'd like to sponsor this event or help to underwrite Dr. Goodall’s visit, please contact Christy Mahon, ACES’ Development Director, at 970.309.6262 or cmahon@aspennature.org. There are incredible meet-and-greet opportunities such as attending an intimate dinner with Dr. Jane Goodall at a private residence.

We’re excited to share there’s a new way to support AIA’s mission and our work at The Center. Millions of us (more than 18 million to be exact) work for employers with matching gift programs. We know that your company matching your gift is important to you, so let's double your impact. All you have to do is submit your AIA donations to your company's matching gifts program.

We want to learn more about you and your interests in AIA’s mission. Please take a moment to complete our brief survey to tell us the best way to keep you connected to The Center and the work we do in Uganda!
