Derek Young, Board Member

Derek Young joined Action in Africa in 2015, drawn to the organization's mission. With a background as an accountant, Derek offered his expertise to help organize Action in Africa's financials. He set up a Quickbooks account and successfully brought the organization up to speed through FY2015.

In recognition of his contributions, Derek was invited to join Action in Africa's board of directors in 2016. Since then, he has been involved in various areas, including processing payroll, conducting salary research, implementing security systems, defining job requisition requirements, and standardizing paid time off policies. Derek has been the go-to person for finance-related matters, effectively serving as Action in Africa's de facto accountant. In 2021, Action in Africa hired a dedicated accountant for bookkeeping and reporting, as well as a payroll firm to handle payroll operations.

Derek is delighted to witness the significant progress Action in Africa has made in streamlining its processes and improving organizational efficiency. He admires the dedication and remarkable work of both the US and Nakuwadde-based teams.

Derek is thrilled to continue supporting these teams as a member of the Board of Directors, as he considers it a privilege to contribute to the ongoing success of Action in Africa.
