FEBRUARY AT AIA
Two months into 2020 and we have hit the ground running at Action In Africa. With school back in full swing, all our primary through university students are learning and growing in their classrooms and at The Center. We have several different projects and priorities underway so I recently spent two weeks in Uganda working on-site at The Center. I am thrilled to share that we are developing a dynamic Program Advisory Board comprised of Uganda-based staff, partner organizations, and professionals dedicated to supporting our mission. In honor of our 10 year anniversary, we had 26 people join us for dinner to celebrate this milestone. This gave us the opportunity to briefly introduce our vision for the Program Advisory Board and we're looking forward to meeting with this dynamic group often to discuss special projects and opportunities for AIA and those we serve. As we continue to evolve Action In Africa as a community-led organization, we anticipate new and exciting ways in which we can empower the women and families in our community. One of the challenges we're currently facing is transportation for our secondary scholarship students so we're launching our first fundraising initiative of 2020 - scroll down for more information on this exciting new campaign to help us bus our students in a more affordable and sustainable way!
As always, it is an honor to have you on this journey with us! Thank you for your commitment to helping us provide life-changing resources for the people of Nakuwadde, Uganda.

Gratefully,
Sarah Elizabeth Nininger

Special thanks to all the generous donors who sent us to Uganda with school supplies from our Amazon Wish List!
AT THE CENTER
Every month is a busy month at The Center, and February was no exception, however things are calming down slightly as students returned to school after the holiday break.

+ P5 and P6 classes (5th and 6th grade in the US) took their math lessons to the next level by using paper plates and balls to understand set concepts. This kinesthetic methodology is a great way for students to integrate abstract math concepts.

+ As we seek to regularly capture what is happening at The Center and to better document special events, Sarah met with two Ugandan photographers and a social media manager. We look forward to collaborating with each of them this year and having their support of highlighting AIA through a local lens.

+ We cannot begin to capture our excitement over 20 new women joining the Saving Program - a pathway to sustainably funding their children's educations!

+ We introduced our vision for a Program Advisory Board to 26 dynamic individuals who live and work in Uganda. We are so grateful to each of these individuals for their commitment to AIA and our mission to empower the women and children in the Nakuwadde community.

ALL ABOARD!
At 6:15AM every day, 65 students arrive at The Center to board rented vans for their 45-minute commute to school. After school, they do it all over again. Transportation to-and-from school is essential, and our goal is to make it a more sustainable and affordable responsibility, which is why we're launching a campaign to buy our very own school bus! Our goal is to raise $30,000 and with the help of a very generous donor, the first $12,000 will be matched! Click the link below to learn more about this upcoming campaign...
