A NEW DECADE FOR GROWTH

The dawn of the new decade brings the exciting opportunity to look to the future, and for us at Action in Africa, it also marks the end of our first decade of work in Nakuwadde, Uganda. Over the past 10 years AIA has blossomed into a community-led organization serving an entire community in Uganda. With a small, dedicated team and support from our generous community, we've laid the foundation for success over the next decade. With myriad creative and educational scholarship programs we are proud of what we've accomplished and the thousands of people we've helped over the years. And now we're inspired to double down on all the great work we've done in order to continue providing quality programs for the women and children in Nakuwadde. We'll be introducing new opportunities to get involved, new ways to give, and a host of new content throughout the year and we hope you'll continue to follow along.

It has been an honor to have you on this journey with us and hope you'll stick around for the next decade! Thank you for your commitment to helping us provide life-changing resources for the people of Nakuwadde, Uganda.

AT THE CENTER

Action in Africa kicked off the new decade with a lot of activity at The Center! From new students and partner schools, to new members in the Women to Women Program, to new metrics for our Adult Education classes 2020 is looking bright!

+ Incoming students and their families visited The Center for a tour and orientation, and then they accompanied Brenda on a tour of our new partner school Mbazzi Riverside School, where they will attend classes.
+ University students are thriving. Some are returning to school for the new semester while others have just signed their acceptance contracts. We are so very proud of their hard work.
+ Staff at The Center organized and hosted an end-of-holiday party attended by students, their families, community leaders and our partner organizations.
+ Several new members have joined the Women-to-Women group, where they introduced themselves to the group with an activity called “Window Into Me," drawing photos of their accomplishments and what they hope to achieve in 2020.
+ We are thrilled with Jenna & Juliana's work incorporating and introducing SMART goals into the Adult Education Program. SMART is an acronym for Specific, Measurable, Achievable, Realistic, & Timely. The participants will track their work using SMART goals throughout the year.
+ AIA partnered with Uganda-based organization Alive Medical Services to host this year's first medical outreach event at The Center. More than 370 individuals came to receive services and treatment including: safe, confidential HIV testing, counseling referrals, anti-malarial medication, haircuts, and more.
