Hello Friends!

August is here and with it some very exciting plans for the coming months! First let's look back at our recent virtual awareness week and celebrate that with your help we were able to distribute 163 emergency aid quarantine kits to help more than 761 people through the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic.

Looking forward, our team in Uganda has outlined a distance-learning program that will begin in the coming weeks and run through the end of November. This program will support at least 709 kids from our partner primary schools with distance-learning programming.

And here in the states we continue to work in service of our mission to empower the community of Nakuwadde with access to education and life-changing, and saving, resources. There are countless opportunities to get involved with our very special work, scroll below to join us for upcoming events!

With gratitude,
Sarah Nininger and The Action in Africa Team

Our team in Uganda continues to cope with ongoing COVID-19 lockdowns, curfews, and ever-changing government regulations. Our community center remains closed, yet our Uganda leaders are still hard at work. They're dedicated to reaching the community in innovative, effective ways that help to keep them engaged and healthy during these challenging times. And once again we've partnered with 21 furloughed teachers, who join us virtually bi-weekly to learn and train until we can once again gather safely at the center.
Furthermore, last week we learned that the Ugandan President declared that schools will remain closed until all students are vaccinated. Protecting the country's health - and that of our community in Nakuwadde - is always of utmost importance to us. However, we're concerned that keeping students out of the classroom for an indefinite period of time will have tremendously negative ramifications, which is why our staff has worked proactively to plan a robust distance-learning program that will serve hundreds of students from our partner schools. We'll share more as the program unfolds in the coming weeks!
We are thrilled to share that we've had 25 members from 13 different cities join The Leadership Committee - Action in Africa's young professional group. Each member has joined as an advocate, leader, or mentor, supporting Action in Africa with their time and talents. Each member has also joined the Scholarship Society, pledging a monthly gift in support of our work. There's always room for more people at our table. You can join us, just click here!
We'll be hosting our first in-person event since 2019 at Aspen Pie Shop on Saturday, August 14th at 5:00 PM MT. We hope you'll join us for a safe and fun evening outdoors to celebrate this wonderful community we've built together! RSVP at www.actioninafrica.com/picnic. The first 50 RSVPs get a free drink!
