the 2024 Women to Women Economic Empowerment Tour
Last week, Action in Africa’s Women to Women group joined the Imara Girls Festival, a remarkable event organized by Reach a Hand Uganda. Over 50 women from AIA traveled to Kampala, Uganda’s capital city, to celebrate the International Day of the Girl Child to reinvigorate their focused on encouraging future leadership in girls.

The Imara Girls Festival delivered vibrant energy, packed with activities that energized and inspired everyone. Games, music, and powerful talks filled the day. Attendees couldn’t stop raving about the festive atmosphere, admiring the beautifully decorated venue. Performances by musicians elevated the excitement, and women enjoyed browsing the marketplace, discovering handcrafts and products made by other women.
Action in Africa’s Women to Women group chose to attend this festival for inspiration as they work to find autonomy in their economic and social futures. Women, as the heart of many communities, often face significant barriers to achieving financial independence, leadership roles, and equality at home and work. Acknowledging these challenges, Action in Africa formed the group to foster connections, build skills, and seize opportunities for women to uplift themselves and others. By breaking cycles of poverty and inequality, the group plays a key role in promoting change, and events like the Imara Girls Festival are vital in advancing this mission.
More than just a fun event, the festival offered women the chance to learn from one another and draw inspiration from successful female entrepreneurs. Women were encouraged to act now, collaborate, and avoid waiting for the "perfect" conditions. The success of the Imara Festival itself showcased the power of partnership and collaboration.
The festival offered a refreshing break from daily routines and a chance to experience something groundbreaking. They left recharged, armed with new connections, knowledge, and a renewed sense of purpose. Despite some logistical hiccups like transportation delays and participants bringing children unexpectedly, organizers quickly adapted, ensuring everything ran smoothly.
By fostering creativity, collaboration, and leadership, The Imara Girls Festival proved the transformative power of investing in young women and highlighted a brighter future. As the women left the festival, one thing was clear—the journey to unlocking their potential has already begun
