This fall we’ve introduced a slate of new events and local programs to the Aspen community. From our (now annual) Pickleball tournament to the week-long residency program with our friend and AIA Ambassador Chinobay and his youth troupe Dance of Hope, it’s been wonderful to spend time with old friends and to see so many new faces. We have been overwhelmed by the support we’ve received from the Aspen community - thank you to everyone who participated! It’s been a transformative year for AIA and as we roll into the final quarter of 2023 we’re already looking forward to even more fun and even more impact in Nakuwadde!

Continue reading to find out everything else that happened in October, and how you can be a part of our end-of-year giving campaign to support our life-changing work at The Center.

This term we exceeded our community outreach goal for the final medical outreach camp for 2023! It wouldn’t be possible to provide healthcare and resources at The Center without the excellent professionals at Alive Medical Services, our community leaders in Nakuwadde, and all our supporters in the US - Thank you!

You can help us build a healthier, happy community in Nakuwadde by joining the Scholarship Society- our monthly giving program. This is the best way to support our work at The Center.  Here’s a few thing we can do with ten $10 memberships:

  • Pay for 6 doctors to staff our medical outreach camps 🏿‍⚕️🩺

  • Provide 350 malaria tests🦟

  • 200 HIV screens ⚕️

Wow! We've had an incredible fall in Colorado! We only wish everyone in our community could have been here to participate. We started with our First Annual Pickleball Tournament, a very special donor dinner, and then a weeklong residency with Chinobay & Dance of Hope.
On October 1st we had the distinct pleasure of hosting 30 guests at Kevin Costner's magical Dunbar Ranch, where they enjoyed a private performance from Chinobay and Dance of Hope. Also included was a fireside chat with Chinobay and Ugandan veterinarian Dr. Gladys Kalema-Zikusoka, who both spoke about growing up in Uganda, the need for access to education and exposure to different career paths. Both emphasized the importance of the life-changing work that organizations like Action in Africa is doing in Uganda.
We then had a remarkable week with AIA Ambassador Chinobay and Dance of Hope. In partnership with Jazz Aspen Snowmass, Dance of Hope led a weeklong residency at various schools throughout the Roaring Fork Valley where they shared traditional Ugandan dancing and cultural education. There were also two community performances at TACAW and the Aspen District Theatre. We will host Dance of Hope again in 2024 so keep an eye out for more details and dates in the coming months.
