Dear Friends,

It’s been a long two years of doing whatever we could to help our community remain resilient during the COVID crisis, but we’ve turned a corner and are working on making 2022 our biggest and best year ever!  Below is just a brief summary of what we’ve been up to so far, but stay tuned - we’ve got lots of exciting announcements planned for the coming months!
We are thrilled to report that all of our in-person programs are back on track! We successfully completed the first term of the 2022 school year after students were out of the classroom for two full academic years. From providing scholarships for 116 secondary students to serving over 30,000 cups of porridge, the AIA team is grateful to be back to serving our students, primary partnership schools, and community members!

We ended the first term of the 2022 academic year in April and quickly jumped back into our holiday programming for the first time since the start of the pandemic. This program opens up our community center to primary and secondary students while the schools are on a break in between terms, providing them with educational lessons and the opportunity to participate in creative-based programs such as Zumba and art.
We added an Education Specialist to our team in Uganda! Christine Jane Olal joined AIA in April as a youth mentor and is responsible for overseeing our continued education programs such as the Internship and University Scholarship Programs. To learn more about Christine and her passion for making education accessible to all, visit her bio here
Our US team has been equally busy! We’ve been working hard to strengthen our communications with our supporters and provide more thoughtful and consistent content. In order to do so, we’ve completed a rebranding project with Due West Designs to give us a fresh and cohesive look. Doesn't our monthly newsletter already look so much better?!

We’ve also hired a new Operations and Communications Manager, Amber Oberc, who brings with her 15 years of nonprofit experience to the US team. To find out why Amber is so excited to be a part of AIA, click here.
We held our first Virtual Quarterly Summit to connect AIA supporters with our team in Uganda. Five AIA team members joined via Zoom to answer questions and share how AIA supported the community during the two years of school closures, as well as the services they’re providing now that schools have reopened. Click here to watch the full video!
To show appreciation for our clubs,  we awarded scholarships to three students from our Aspen High School Club to attend the Aspen Institute’s High School Great Ideas Seminar.  To read more about what they learned and how it impacted them, click here.
