Fall at Action In Africa is a busy season! We know you're busy too, but we wanted you to know about the best things that happened at AIA in September:

  • Our special needs students, Shaki and Sylvia, are thriving through one-on-one physical therapy and sign language classes at The Center. Their school closed due to COVID-19 but AIA has stepped in to ensure they're still receiving the care and resources they need to thrive.
    • Shaki is walking without braces!
    • For the first time in 9 years Sylvia and her mom are learning sign language together. Watching them learn how to communicate this way brought tears to our eyes and is such a wonderful example of the life changing work you're supporting when you donate to Action In Africa!
  • This week schools in Uganda reopened for students scheduled to take their national exams. We are working with our partner schools to ensure all government requirements are met for a successful and safe transition back to school.
  • Distance learning programs have been a huge success and we're working to deliver programming to our P5 & P6 students.

We're thrilled to announce that Action In Africa has been selected to receive a core programming grant from Here to Be, lululemon's social impact program. Here to Be disrupts inequality in wellbeing through movement, mindfulness, and advocacy. They have invested in AIA's Distance Learning and Wellness kits that are designed to create ongoing access to educational and wellness resources despite school closures caused by COVID-19. We are so excited to have their support and look forward to all the work we'll be able to do through this program.
