Weekly Good News: Adult English Classes
We are wrapping up the weekend with some good news brought to you by Nakavuma Juliana. As the Director of our Adult Education Programs and Special Events, Juliana has restructured her Adult English Classes to continue supporting her students without gathering them for in-person lessons at The Center. She has managed to implement a distance learning model so that she can reach her adult students in their homes and ensure they don't fall behind due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Read below to hear about how Juliana and her students are thriving.
"Due to COVID-19, Action in Africa has started distance learning programs in Uganda and we as the Adult Education department decided to collaborate with our adult students to also continue with our learning from home. We started off with appointing class representatives from our beginner, intermediate and advanced classes to collect and deliver revision work for their classmates and bringing it back to the center for marking by their teacher. For the past few months, we have provided revision work from what we had already covered in class before the pandemic to keep them in the loop. This has been a success so far.
We have now decided to twist it a little different from that and have started providing new worksheets about Covid-19, thus making sure they truly understand why and how they can prevent themselves from this viral disease. This also helps them with understanding the different vocabulary used by the ministry of health in the daily reports that are released." - Nakavuma Juliana
We are so grateful to be able to work with all our students, including our Adult English Class participants, during this challenging time and will continue to do so until we can resume in-person lessons. Keep up the great work, Juliana!
