Happy September, Everyone!
We hope this email finds you healthy and well. With August behind us it's officially the back-to-school season, except this year looks a lot different. Just like here in the US, the kids and familes in Nakuwadde, Uganda, are facing the same unprecedented challenges - further complicated by food shortages, stay-at-home orders, and the absence of social programs to help them get by.
As we continue to navigate these new challenges, we want to THANK YOU for being part of the Action In Africa community.
Unlike many of the schools in the states, Uganda's schools remain closed. Also unlike our systems, there aren't reliable academic tools for students and families to access while schools are closed. Our distance-learning program bridges that gap for the students in our partnership and scholarship programs. To learn more about our Distance Learning Program visit our blog.

Furthermore, we're starting this new, socially-distanced school year with some very welcome additions to the Action In Africa team. Megan Engel joins us in the states, assisting with social media and marketing and we have TWO new team members in Uganda. Robinah Nandutu will serve as Action In Africa's new Social Worker, where she will work directly with students and families in our Nakuwadde community. And Angela Mwebaze has joined our team as Action In Africa's new Education Consultant. Angela will be guiding our team to make sustainable, ethical, achievable, and strategic plans as we continue to grow our programs in Uganda. We are thrilled to have each one of these dynamic women working in support of our mission!

Finally, it's hard not to get discouraged when we're constantly bombarded with grim news and scary headlines, which is why we've decided to share good news as often as possible. Below you'll find a link to our new blog series, Weekly Good News, where we post uplifting news from on-the-ground in Uganda. And in the spirit of good news, the Action in Africa clubs around the US are still up and running. Even though this school year looks very different, our clubs are adapting and finding less conventional but creative and exciting ways to continue supporting Action in Africa's work.
One of our stateside high school clubs made a video about why they love supporting Action In Africa. If you have a moment, please watch it! And if you are interested in starting an AIA club at your school or in your community, please click the link below!

Students at Carnegie Vanguard High School in Houston, Texas, volunteer to support Action In Africa through community awareness and local fundraisers. One of their club members, Ammaar Katlani, recently made a video promoting their club. We hope you enjoy it as much as we did!

Action in Africa's Weekly Good News is a new series that will highlight the great things happening on-the-ground in Nakuwadde each week. Some weeks it might be big news, other weeks it may simply be a positive update. Regardless of the magnitude, we hope these stories work to remind us all that there is still good among us.
