Action in Africa’s Country Director, David Masiko

Transforming Lives and Inspiring Excellence at Action in Africa

David Masiko has been the Country Director at Action in Africa (AIA) for almost two years. He holds a Master’s Degree in Human Rights Law, a post-graduate diploma in project planning and management, and his background in health rights and social initiatives spans over 20 years. Since joining the AIA team, he has positively influenced the lives of staff, interns, AIA fellows, and the community at large. These insights were gathered through interviews conducted with members of the AIA community.

Miracle and Her Grandmother

Birungi Miracle is a 12-year-old Primary Five student who attends the AIA Center during the after-school program. She considers David one of her biggest fans. She was accompanied to the interview by her grandmother ("Jjajja"), who shared additional positive feedback.

“I call Mr. David my savior. I can say he saved my future from being buried. I was not well-behaved and was very anti-social, but Uncle David’s guidance has changed all that. He is my hero, and I wouldn’t want to disappoint him.

Through Uncle David’s efforts, I was given a chance to resume my studies after staying home for three years because my grandmother couldn’t afford to support my education. I am now on a full scholarship, with all the necessary scholastic materials, and I am studying in a boarding school. I’m pursuing my dream of becoming a doctor. I promise Uncle David that I will study hard and achieve four aggregates in the Primary Leaving Examinations (PLE).”

Her grandmother added that she consistently guides Miracle to behave well and participate actively in AIA programs. She emphasized that Miracle understands the importance of maintaining good behavior, as her sponsorship depends on it.

With a smile, Miracle’s grandmother shared how healthy her granddaughter has become thanks to the porridge meals provided at the center. She expressed gratitude for the love and care David has shown and wished him blessings for being a faithful man who keeps his promises.

Nic – Finance and Administration Manager

“David joined the organization at a pivotal moment in its journey. His leadership was exactly what the organization needed at that time. He introduced innovative ideas that have propelled the organization onto a path of continuous growth and improvement.

From a Finance Manager’s perspective, David has a unique ability to balance approachability with professionalism. His ability to manage upward is also highly commendable. Having worked under David’s leadership for approximately one and a half years, I can confidently say that he is an exceptional leader. I am consistently impressed by the breadth and depth of his skill set.”

Mary – Head Chef

“We had never had a male Country Director before David, so I was initially fearful, thinking he might be very strict or rude. From day one, my fears were disproved.

David has taught me so many things, especially in my role as a chef: integrity, creativity, accountability, and passion for my work. He has significantly fostered my professional growth.”

Shadia – AIA Fellow and Alumna

Shadia described David as a kind-hearted man, a father figure, a mentor, a listener, a principled individual, and an advisor. She emphasized his ability to provide opportunities for ambitious people to explore their potential. Shadia recalled how David personally informed her about the AIA Fellows Program and noted that he continues to check in on her professional progress.

“He is very innovative. He has introduced new projects, like the Information Communication Technology Boot Camp, which exposed AIA students to computer skills in web design and advanced IT knowledge. His efforts have inspired others.”

David Masiko’s leadership at AIA has left a profound impact on individuals at all levels of the organization and within the community. His dedication, innovative vision, and mentorship continue to transform lives and inspire excellence.
